THE FUTURE OF JEFF JONES TOWN SQUARE
In addition to the world’s first Solar Roadway’s installation, the future is bright for Jeff Jones Town Square. Plans include a free public WiFi zone supported by Sandpoint’s new fiber optic backbone, the continuation of a running live stream camera of the Solar Roadways display and future updates, and other amenities such as electrical vehicle (EV) charging stations.
The Town Square will continue as a public gathering place but also reflect the innovation and commitment to sustainable practices and protection of the environment – values which the community of Sandpoint is well known for.
Funding for this project was provided by the State of Idaho Department of Commerce and the Sandpoint Urban Renewal Agency.
This project was made possible by the 2016 Sandpoint City Council, Mayor Shelby Rognstad, Solar Roadways, Avista Utilities,North County Electric, LLC, and City of Sandpoint employees.
Solar Roadway’s hope is to have their first manufacturing facility here in Sandpoint, and support the local economy with job creation. More information of Solar Roadways can be found on their website: www.solarroadways.com.
